The rupiah is the official currency of Indonesia. Banknotes come in a range of denominations. The most common banknotes are Rp. 100,000, Rp. 50,000, Rp. 20,000, Rp. 10,000, Rp. 5,000, while useful coin denominations are Rp. 500, Rp. 200, and Rp. 100.

Foreign money can be exchanged at most banks in Bali. Money can also be changed at the airport, at most hotel cashiers and at authorized money changers. There is no real need to convert all of your currency into travelers checks as some banks, money changers and establishments do not accept travelers checks.

Most major credit cards are an acceptable form of payment at hotels, large restaurants and departments stores. But cash still remains the major form of payment at local markets and craft sellers.
